Tech and professional communities provide great value to developers. In Medellín, Colombia, there’s a large number of these communities with different approaches but all are very well-received. Some examples are Medellín JS, Python Medellín, MDE.Net, Robótica Medellín, among many others. In my case, I actively participate as an assistant and speaker for Pioneras Developersand I’m an organizer of Women Who Code Medellín. Devs can also go to international events such as the JSconf, Scale Conf, Pycon, and more.

On October 2018 I went to my first Latin American Conference on Agile Methodologies, Ágiles 2018. I can definitely say that it was an amazing experience, not only because of the quality of the content but because of the sheer quality of the people that went to that event.

For two years I’ve worked for UruIT and it’s been an interesting journey learning more about the South America software outsourcing world. One of the perks of this experience is having the opportunity to learn more about other cultures. From our offices in Colombia and Uruguay in Latin America we provide services primarily to US startups and corporations. Quite a mix, right? To add to this cultural diversity, I’m from yet another country, Brazil.

Never stop learning—it’s a reliable piece of career advice that’s applicable no matter what field you work in. As a CTO of UruIT, a nearshore development agency, I’ve seen first-hand how being a lifelong learner can lead to exciting opportunities for me and for my company. In my experience, attending conferences with my peers is a crucial way to continue learning and achieving important goals.
