  • The XmlFormatter Architecture in Indigo

     Indigo will ship another object <--> XML “converter“, the XmlFormatter. The XmlFormatter feels like the successor to the SoapFormatter. It doesn't have the limitations of the XmlSerializer, but doesn't allow for the customization of the output format. Here are the features in more detail.

  • Data binding in ASP.NET Whidbey

    I got my first glance at Whidbey last summer. I was sitting in the convention center with about 70 other guys getting a demo of ASP.NET Whidbey (whatever the version number will be). ScottGu first stated an impressive goal for the next release: 70% reduction of the code that developers have to write for web apps! 70%, I thought, was a pretty high goal.

  • A very good question …

    Last night, I was sitting with a few PMs for various pieces of the Framework and I asked the question: Why do I have to wait for framework improvements, like the new XsltProcessor, XPathDocument or the improvements in System.Net until the IDE support for ASP.NET or even Yukon are done? Why isn’t there a more modular release strategy, like the one employed by WSE, that allows to release pieces of the framework on their own?
