VistaDB to support .NET 2.0 features in version 3.0 (sometime in 2006...)

I am not sure on a firm timeline but VistaDB has said that they are going to support .NET 2.0 features in the 3.0 release of VistaDB Server.   The only date that they have on their website is 2006.

It is nice that they are going to support .NET 2.0 features, but for being a commercial product they are behind the ball and and should have been ready for this much sooner…

VistaDB 2.1 supports .NET 1.1/2.0 and Visual Studio 2003/2005 today.

VistaDB 3.0 (due out mid 2006) is a complete rewrite of VistaDB 2.x using fully managed and safe C# code. The entire VistaDB 3.0 engine will be 100% managed -- not just the Provider. This means that VistaDB 3.0 will run "embedded" everywhere .NET goes, including on the Compact Framework.

  • My point is just that although it may run on .NET 2.0, it requires you to use ADO.NET 1.1.

ADO.NET 2.0 stuff like DbProviderFactory are not yet supported in VistaDB 2.x
