RSS readers in Outlook

 

Actually, Outlook can be fitted with a RSS Client.  NewsGator works very nice and integrates very nicely with Outlook.  I have tried a lot of the other RSS readers and I keep on going back to NewsGator.  I love Outlooks UI (especially Outlook 2003) and I like getting my mail and blogs in the same application.
 

I hear ya. I'm in exactly the same situation and I bet others are hopelessly trying to do the same at other places.
I think it has to do with the fact that blogs are still not that accessible. RSS readers are not mainstream. They are the "Linuxes" of today's data clients (Outlook being windows).
The moment Outlook express or Outlook is fitted with a built in RSS client, and sites will  *really publish* the fact that they are available through RSS - then you'll start having people listen to you.

  • That's not what I meant. I meant that people shouldn't have to install an app that reads feeds. It should already be built in.

  • NewsGator is not free. Why dont you try SharpReader. It´s free. You¨ll need .Net framework 1.1. that is also free. Remember OE will be out of support soon.

  • I realize that newsgator is not free but I do everything in Outlook! (not OE) If someone wants to help come up with an open source plugin for Outlook I would be willing to help, but as far as I know, newsgator is the only rss reader that works with Outlook.

  • SharpReader is a free option to use. Is completely independent of Outlook or Outlook Express and save you a lot of time of blogging.

    SharpReader allows you to, in a one minute connection, recibe all the feeds you want FOR FREE. Isn´t Internet about this ? Free share of knowledge and news, and updates, and be aware of what other people is working with, etc. Remember Outlook "was". Jump into the FREE SPAM world of RSS.

  • You have a point. I am a big proponent of "free" and a big supporter of anyone releases cool free software!

  • Just to jump in here, this thread sounds like it's been banging on about a problem that I've been trying to find a solution to myself.



    Is the conclusion here that there is currently no freeware software that allows RSS feeds to be received in Outlook? I'm looking into setting up feeds for members of our institution and to help encourage them to use RSS I don't want them to have to go outside or Outlook to read them.



    Any comments much appreciated.
