.NET Web Hosting

I am going to be switching from my current (non-.net) hosting company and I am looking for suggestions from satisfied customers.
I am looking for a host that supports NET 1.1 and is <$20 / month.

I have found the following links for hosting from Google but I could use any feedback (good or bad)
** I added a few more to the list from comments below. Thanks!! **

  • We've had a great experience with CrystalTech - highly recommended.

  • I had a bad experience w/ Webhost4life.com (as have 2 friends) I currently use HostDepartment.com. They have a very extensive control panel (you can set up anything) SQL Server access, cheap rates, Paypal payment options.

They just did away w/ live phone support - everything is through a chat deal - which is only so-so for tech support.

    But otherwise good host.

  • Some people have had problems with Webhosting4Life, but I love them, and haven't had any problems, and I host 3 urls plus subdomains thru 1 account. My only wish would be that they have spam filtering on their email hosting, but other than that, I have nothing but praise for them. I have the $20/month account with 300MB storage, SQL Server 2K, and unlimited bandwidth (a must if you are planning to have multiple domains). I've also used Webhosting4Life's tech support, and found them to be very responsive. They didn't have any problems adding the SVG mimetype to their servers, and setup for SQL Server was a breeze.

  • I am also in the process of looking for an ASP.NET host, and have done a bit of research myself, and was actually thinking pretty seriously about going with www.webstrikesolutions.com. They seem to have a pretty decent reputation, I've read their forums and have noticed pretty fair responses from their customers, and their pricing is definitely competitive. For the first year you only pay the $30 setup fee, and the rest of the first year is 100% free (I haven't found any catches to that so far). SQL Server access is available, but it's a bit on the pricy side ($100/year for 25MB). Servers have been upgraded to Windows Server 2003 and .NET fx 1.1. Anybody else have any experience with WebStrike?

  • Another vote for www.webhost4life.com. Always found them responsive and VERY reasonably priced.

  • I put in a support request on Sunday morning with webhost4life... by 4:00pm that same day, I had a response and a resolution. They do be good.

  • I just signed up with Brinkster over the weekend (used Dotster for domain registration).

My DNS servers were finally updated last night and I posted a VERY simple ASP.NET app.

I went with the X4 option because of the domain name support & Live Chat, which I have used.

Support: As I was registering I accidentally typed the wrong domain name to associate with my Brinkster account (doh!) (I was waffling between 2 when I signed up with Dotster, and typed the wrong one into Brinkster). I didn't discover it until a couple of days later. I 'spoke' with them through live chat and they corrected it on the spot (and without any additional fees).

  • I'm on WH4L and overall, they're really good, just a bit "flakey" sometimes, but support is quite responsive...well, a little slow on weekends, but other than that, pretty fast...price is great! You can have as many sql db's as you want, etc...bandwidth is pretty good too :)

  • I am using DiscountASP.NET. Very straightforward, easy and professional. Nice control panel. They are using W2K3 + 1.1 Framework.

  • Well, I use DiscountASP.NET myself, and have been very frustrated with them so far. The first issue I had, they told me to change my code, basically, to work around a configuration issue on their part.

Needless to say, I'm switching to webhost4life. For the same price at discountasp, I can get SQL Server as well. I'm all for that.

  • I've had nothing but a great experience at CrystalTech for the last three years, and I know many other who say the same.

  • DiscountASP is terrible when it comes to resolving a problem. When my email system went down the webmail browser interface stopped working and all my customers got bounced emails. Sure, a system can go down for a few minutes, but their support reps (email only) just send deflecting questions instead of resolving the issue. My email was down for more than 24 hours, and it took another 24 to resolve. I'm going to have to move my service...

  • DiscountASP IS terrible. Their prices are outrageous for SQL Server and SSL among others and their support stinks. Don't plan on getting much technical help but plan on reading and searching the web for help if you have questions related to the technical side of your service. Ridiculous!
