Windows Vista Service Pack 1 RC1 Vs. Shipping Vista

Another one of those referral posts... I don't like these... But I need to post this one... Just for the record...

I have heard some bitching about the Vista that it is slower than the XP too and that if you look at it from the sheer performance perspective, XP is better...

Had to post this to put things into the right perspective... and to lay their tall claims with some statistical data...

Of course there isn't too much improvement from the performance perspective, but Vista comes with loads of other features... and it is not compromising on performance to the extent that it becomes slower than the previous versions... Check it out...

  • Dude, I'm not a anti-MS person, but after installing Vista and not being able to make the darn thing stop accessing my hard disk like crazy, which slowed down everything, I HAD to take it off. I'm using Windows 2003 and there's no way Vista comes even close to how fast W2003 feels. Yes, they may have improved certain aspects, which are shown in this benchmark. But what's the point if they add 10 more extra stuff that slow it down to way below XP performance?! It's the overall feel of the OS that matters, not some benchmark that tells us that it's actually slightly faster than XP. I've also tried Windows 2008 and it's WAY better than Vista. They should just ship that instead.

  • Mr., Vista may have all the feature, but where is stability. Vista crashes, has no compatible drivers for many devices, crashes when used with dual monitor (Geforce nvidia). Know this, people now dont want to buy MS product until SP1, Now SP1 is shipping early. Got the point.

  • I have to agree with Zzzz about disk access.

The patches that came out in August/September did a lot to improve Vista's disk access and memory management. But still I only see 10 Megs/sec when copying files, on a new fast computer with sata 3.0 drives.

That being said, XP suffered from similar problems when it was first introduced. It wasn't until SP2 that it became stable.
