Browser War 2.0
Yesterday Google announced that they are working on a own Web browser. The first beta version will be available for Windows today in more than 100 countires, Mac and Linux versions are coming soon. An official starting point could be http://www.google.com/chrome as it returns an http error 404 instead of a simple redirect to the Google search.
While writing a lot about missing features in Internet Explorer 8 beta 2 I’m very happy that Google will introduce their new browser as open source browser, Google Chrome. There is a comic available that gives you some information.
We're hard at work building versions for Mac and Linux too, and will continue to make it even faster and more robust.
This is what I’m waiting for, a faster and more robust Web browser. For me it doesn’t matter which company will develop this robust and fast Web browser (well, I would still prefer Microsoft, of course). Google needs to develop a own Web browser maybe because of the Google Android Phone.
Source code of Firefox is available, Google has announced writing an open source browser, parts (WebKit) of Apple Safari is available as open source code, too. Will Microsoft change their mind and put the source code of Internet Explorer 8 at codeplex.com?
Very exciting to see Browser War 2.0 starting. Who will win the battle?
Update: see the full Google Chrome comic here.

Nobody will win your so called "browser war" because people will always have different preferences and opinions. Take a look out of the window. Is everyone driving the same car? Will definitely be downloading chrome today

I find it a little funny that they are bringing out the windows version first, you would think they would provide a *nix version first?

@Guy: the Web browser than will win does not get 100%, but a new browser that will reach i.e. 20% in months will be the winner. I definitely will download the Google browser today, too!

Guy Harwood, If every car is free of cost then every one will drive Mercedes or BMW. Since you will not be paying anything while using the browser, you will go for the best (Fast and trouble free browser). I will be happy to see when people will forget IE.

Michael, I would love for you to comment on the "missing features" of IE8. I just saw some of the enhancements and while it's still beta 2, I think they have achieved something really amazing. We'll have to wait to RTM to see how they manage to include as much features as possible, but please, comment on what's missing. BTW. I don't work at Microsoft, I'm just curious. ;) Thanks!
