Blogology 101 : Classification
Lately, I have done alot of thinking about blogs and blogging-behavior. In general, it seems that bloggars fall into 6 categories:
- Strange Quark: Posts contain the aimless meanderings of a chaotic mind. Seemingly suffering from ADD, and often prolific poster of content.
- Under Achiever: Always attempts to convey cohesive thoughts, but somehow falls disappointingly short.
- Bench Warmer: A consistent blogger who aspires to produce thought-provoking content and “make it to the big-time“. Often shows promise and clarity of thought, but sometimes lacks the “big idea“ or fails to nail-down the important points on important topics.
- Fireworks Show: An infrequent bloggar who is extremely focused on a single topic or project, often bursting with inspiring content that dazzles the audiance as it flies over their heads. Very exciting, but leaves little visible impact on our daily lives.
- Solid Silver: Consistently above averge content conveyed in a meaningful way, and leaving the reader richer yet ready for more.
- Super Star: Every post is like gold flowing from their keyboard. Every post is carefully crafted to be mind-blowingly clever, insightful, and unique within the topic. Each post is heavily referenced across the web, and the bloggar's name is known industry-wide.
I think we all strive to achieve Solid Silver, or Super Star status, but often find ourselves falling short.
My own blog, for example, often seems more of a mixture of the Strange Quark, Under Achiever, and Bench Warmer, and I want to change that. In the future, I plan to post less often, but try to deliver more meaningful, cohesive, and inspiring content. I look forward to trying to deliver on this goal....
