BUG: Windows Server 2003 & Checkpoint VPN

Monday I received my new Dell D600 laptop and decided to run Windows Server 2003 since that is the OS to which I most frequently deploy.

After configuring the myriad of security and server settings, and working through some Driver compatibility problems, I am left with one major bug.

I cannot get CheckPoint's SecureRemote NG client to install properly.

This is critical since I frequently work from home via VPN, and would hate to lose that privilige. My knowledge of VPN is fairly limited, except through my own usage.

Any suggestions on how to solve this problem?

Update: I found this FAQ about Microsoft's L2TP/IPSec VPN client. I'm not sure if this client will help, but its worth a try.

  • Hey i have the same problem.

i get an error when trying to run SecureRemote client on a Windows 2003 machine.

    Anybody around to help, please?

  • Unfortunately, I still havent found a solution to the incompatibility. The official line from Checkpoint is that Win2k3 is not supported, so they can't help us. Microsoft says the same, plus Win2k3 is not intended to be used as a workstation.

The last communication I had with support at Checkpoint was that I needed to have my corporate VPN administrator contact them because I was not an authorized contact person at my company. :(

So, good luck, and let me know if you get this resolved. I'll definitely post an announcement if I find a work around.

    Thanks,

    Lance
