Longhorn, Winhec, and How-To-Get-My-New-Build

Chris Sells has posted a pre-emptive strike answering many of the questions of us non-WinHEC attendees in his latest post. A new build of Longhorn was released to attendees and will be was made available (at about 4pm EST on 5/6/04) to developers via MSDN “Real Soon Now“. The build is labeled M7.2 (Milestone 7.2, I imagine), and will have some of the swapped out namespaces (namely MSAvalon, though there may be others).

Chris also makes a point of noting the proper forum for feedback, that is to say, the newsgroups. Personally, I can't wait to see what he means by “the addition of 3D support in Avalon, including...XAML”.

MSBuild is the only option for building currently, as the framework versions have to match. And the MSDN subscriber access to the bits is for “any subscriber..., not just Universal Subscribers”.

One last bit of joy; this will include new SDK bits as well; I only hope that this means some updated documentation online as well.

  • Look for more details about the Avalon 3D as soon as we can get it up there. There will be updated SDK docs (with some references to the 3D stuff) online as well.
