PDC Session Highlight Of The Day #2
The PDC session highlight for today is:
Adding Analytics to Your Applications Using SQL Server "Yukon" Analysis Services
Track: Data Systems Code: DAT408
Room: Room 403AB Time Slot: Mon, October 27 3:00 PM-4:15 PM
Speakers: Marin Bezic, Richard Tkachuk
In this session, XML for Analysis, the base XML API for the "Yukon" Analysis Services server are introduced. A client application is built using ADOMD.NET, which highlights several new features in the "Yukon" server. Finally, adding an extension to MDX by building a stored procedure--a new Analysis Services "Yukon" feature--using ADOMD.NET server-side programming will be shown.
Ah, finally some native support for OLAP in .Net. I know most developers haven’t had much exposure to OLAP, but if you do any serious report generation you should take a look into what OLAP (aka Analysis Services) can do for you. Getting your head around multi-dimensional data isn’t always the easiest thing to do, but once you get the hang of it you will find that you were already using it, but were not thinking of it in terms of OLAP. And since my wife is a SQL Server OLAP DBA, it is only naturally that I’m bias towards this stuff.
