CodePlex - OMG BBQ!

Just found CodePlex. Man this is great news. A hosted TFS site for source control and work item tracking all geared towards open/shared source development. Check out this link for connecting your Team Explorer to CodePlex.

Is microsoft going to make a version of team explorer available for free? http://www.codeplex.com/Project/DisplayThread.aspx?ProjectName=CodePlex&ForumId=32&ThreadId=28

If they make team explorer available for free download and use with the site that will TOTALLY ROCK! I also cant help but wonder what this means for the express edition tools. Not that big of a deal to run a seperate app for SCC and work item stuff but would be even cooler if the integrated it. VS.NET 2005 Std and Pro are pretty cheap though so this may not even be an issue.

The site still seems a little "beta", but man its great news that Microsoft is doing this for the .NET community.

  • MS doesn't have a choice but to release a free version of team explorer...if not they shut out a lot of devs (such as myself) who aren't running VSTS, nor have any plans to shell out the big bucks for it.
