Holy Crap, DNN Corp just bought Snowcovered!

• Well it's NEWS for the DNN community but it remains to be seen if it's good news. For instance, under current policy I get a referral fee for everything sold on DNN. But DNN's own partner program provides a smaller fee on the "registered level" and even that requires a $100 investment on the part of the partner. Will DNN offer their PE edition for sale on Snowcovered? Will I get my same margin if I resell through there? If not - why not? If so - what is the advantage of being a partner? Will they start to exercise editorial control over what gets posted and/or is made available like the iPhone marketplace? How about if the feature competes directly with a PE feature?
  
  I liked having two separate marketplaces - they kept each other honest. I'm happy for Brice that his hard work on Snowcovered paid off, and for DNN in that they have a solid ongoing revenue source now. I'm concerned for future DNN marketplaces as DNN starts to exert more control over content and vendors.
  

• Seems to be the Marketplace wasn't working out so well for them. I would like to have seen both Snowcovered and the Marketplace compete but it's not to be.
  

• Lee, I'm don't even know how to respond to your paranoia, I'm sorry you have no trust in DotNetNuke or the Corporation. I'm glad I quit twitter for the week because I'm sure there more spouting off like that going on there right now.
  

• Hi Chris, as a matter of fact, the news is spreading fast and wide on twitter, like it should be given its importance and relevance. However, it is not being bad taken. Nor that-well-taken either... my guess is nobody can assess the bomb's nature yet.
  
  As for your week off twitter, my first feeling was to applaud you :-) I hope you are getting some more free and useful time also ;-)

• Chris, if you're sure that more people are "spouting off like that" then there would seem to be a genuine mistrust in the DotNetNuke Corporation. Something that needs to be addressed and not ridiculed.
  
  I think Lee has a valid point. Any time a Corporation starts taking over the competition, it usually does not bode well for the ecosystem of users. It remains to be seen whether this will be so in this instance, but to call Lee "paranoid", I think is a little over the top.

• I agree. Lee's comment is right on. I am surprised Chris posting came off like that. Is he on DNN payroll now or what? Any time a bigger company starts buying off competition it creates less competition and less competition is always bad, very bad. On a positive side, this creates an opportunity to start another "snowcovered", but much better. Thanks, DNN.
