MP3 player or SPV?

Ollies blog post got me thinking, perhaps I should consider getting one of them there Orange smart phones instead of an MP3 player?

Currently I use my Jornada and 128mb Compact Flash card to play my music, a fair bit bulkier than an MP3 player and woefully short on capacity in comparison to, say, the 20gb Zen, but being a PDA it does allow me to do obvious other stuff that a dedicated player can't.

The SPV will do the functions of both providing I can get a decent capacity storage on to it. Although the idea of my entire CD collection fitting onto the machine appeals, on my 128mb card I can get a good couple of hours worth of .WMA files (I knocked up a command-line MP32WMA tool to automate this), a 512mb card would probably suffice ....

  • My SPV does pretty ok with playing music. I haven't actually tried an MP3 file, but I think it plays them OK and I know it plays WMA files ok.

I got a new 256mb SD card off eBay for it for £85, which is fairly acceptable.

I'm with you Chris, I don't want an mp3 player, a mobile, a pda, a watch, etc, etc. I want one device that does it all.

  • freedom-mobiles.co.uk sells 256mb SD memory card for the SPV with free p&p for £69.99.

512 sd memory card for £189.99. Any good to you
