Enabling Internet Connectivity on Windows Mobile 6 Emulator

If you’re having difficulty figuring out how to enable internet access on your device emulator, use the following steps to get internet access configured properly.

Configure the Cellular Emulator

  1. Open up the Cellular Emulator. This is found under Start>All Programs>Windows Mobile 6 SDK>Tools>Cellular Emulator.
  2. Take note of the COM port in the lower left-hand corner.
  3. In the device emulator window, go to File>Configure… and select the Peripherals tab.
  4. Under Serial Port 0, select the serial port name that was displayed in the Cellular Emulator. If the serial port is not displayed in the dropdown box, go ahead and type it in.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Now you will need to perform a soft reset on the device by selecting File>Reset>Soft.
Configure GPRS (Windows Mobile 6 Standard)
  1. On the device emulator, navigate to Start>Connections>GPRS.
  2. Select New…
  3. Give a name for this connection under the Description field.
  4. Under the Connects To field, select The Internet.
  5. Click Done and perform a soft reset.

That’s it! You should now have internet access on your device emulator.
