First post from rebuilt laptop.
First post from PostXING on my newly built laptop :-) All-in-all it took me about 6 hours to get from woe to woe to woe to go. Along the way it was useful to follow in the footsteps of my sagacious colleague Mitch who built his machine only a day prior to me doing it.
One of the coolest things about XP is the Settings Transfer Wizard; you run it before you re-build and save your settings off to a settings file, then, when you've rebuilt you import the file back via the Wizard and all of your default settings, e-mail archives, music, IE Favourites, etc are all put back in place.
1 thing that noticed about it was that my Media Player rating information was not persisted.
The other thing that got me was that, at first I attempted to import my settings prior to installing XP-SP2. I kept getting an the following error message:
The location that you specified does not contain stored information
Of course, this is because of the fact that I created the file on an SP2 machine so it can only be read from an SP2 machine. Once I installed SP2 it imported in no time at all!
